Three Good Things
Yesterday two good things happened (three if you count the Green's historic victories in the EU elections, especially in Bristol. I'm so proud of you.)
- I recognised someone in the street, someone I've only come to know since arriving back in Edinburgh. For three weeks I've wandered round the city not recognising anyone (with the obvious exception of people I've arranged to meet ie my sister, my daughter etc). Coming from Bristol where, after 28 years, popping down to the high street on a Saturday morning could take hours on account of all the friends I'd bump into while I was there, this is a very strange and, quite frankly, unsettling experience. But the spell has now been broken.
- We stumbled upon one of Edinburgh's answers to Bristol's Zero Green and the Southville Deli - The Refillery! The manager was sweeping up when we popped our heads round the door, but she invited us in to have a look and we discussed the small independent shop scene in Edinburgh. She then very kindly offered us a couple of unsold loaves.
- I've discovered a bakery (the one the loaves came from). It's called Breadshare. Unfortunately it's not exactly on the doorstep, but we do a lot of wandering, so we may be able to stock up from time to time. We've been living on supermarket bread since we arrived, which is a real comedown from my days at Hobbs. There is an artisan baker round the corner from us but the loaf I bought on our first day was rather stodgy and I haven't been back.
